Annual OMI Retreat 2024

Annual OMI Retreat 2024

Friday, January 12, 2024

Over 45 Missionary Oblates from Assumption Province gathered at Queen of Apostles Renewal Centre this week for their annual retreat.  Fr. Salvador “Chava” Gonzalez OMI, hailing from the US Province of the Oblates,  was the retreat master.  During the retreat, the Oblates explored themes of being a pilgrim in the world, and had the opportunity to adore the Blessed Sacrament for an extended period each day.  Daily Mass and the communal celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours were the staples of each day of retreat. Fr. Salvador, basing himself on the writings of St. Eugene de Mazenod, spoke of “the poor of Jesus Christ”.  These are the poor that do not know Christ, and as such, are not able to benefit from the hope and joy that come from the Lord Jesus.  The retreat master spoke of the importance of being disciples of Jesus, a discipleship that comes even before one’s status as a religious brother, or an ordained priest.  Fr. Salvador also touched on the missionary spirituality that should pervade all Oblate works, as well as the task of priests to not only preside at sacraments, but pray the sacraments with their people.  A fraternal spirit was enjoyed by all.
